22d TX Cavalry, Co H; Capt John Wallis

I think we have solved the " 'J. Wallis' horse wounded' per Lt. Carson's Oct 15, 1864 letter" question.

"J. Wallis" was the cited as "J. Wallis' horse wounded" in the Oct 13, 1864 Battle of Elm Creek by Lt. Nathan F. Carson of Co D, Bourland's Regt. Most of Company D was from Whitesboro, Grayson Co TX area, although Lt. Carson, of Brazos Co TX, had been in Bourland's Regt since before Aug 1863. There were two Grayson Co TX area men who were possibilities: cited below. Plus about one-third of Bourland's men were older men who had been officers earlier in the War.
.
NOT this J. Wallis. ... Joseph Wallace, b-1825, same as Josephus Wallace, Wallis, Fitzhugh's 16th TX Cavalry, Co G. Pvt/Sgt, enrolled Mar 1, 1862 Sherman, Grayson Co TX, at age 37, for 12 months; Horse and saddle: $100, $20 ... mustered in Collin Co TX on Mar 10, 1862; last record was: Apr 22, 1865, read: "44 d. Apr 22, G.O. 17 Dept Hdqts"
.
BUT this John Wallis, b-1812 NC, who enrolled in the 22d TX Cav-1st Indian Regt, Co H, at age 49 as a Capt/Capt on Dec 13, 1861 in Whitesboro, Grayson Co TX, then proceeded to enroll men in Company H, including Benjamin M. Wallis (age 22 MO) and George W. Wallis (age 18 MO) in Whitesboro on Dec 13, 1861. These Wallis boys may have be his nephews, but not his ch. Below are the censuses where this "Capt John Wallis" can be found.
