We all know Oliver Hedgecox...He was 35 in 1860 and had 9 slaves(in trust for minor heir James Herndon).$9,000-Real Estate and $4,000-Personal Property.Obviously Oliver made out well in his Real Estate/Surveying business.Interesting he hired a substitute.If he had enlisted before spring of 62 he would have most likely been discharged as over-age by terms of the April Conscription Act.
