Since William said that he fought at Mansfield/Pleasant Hill in April 1864 and mustered out about May 1865 and then later applied for a pension, I can only assume that whatever the reason for him to be absent in Feb 1864 was rectified without serious consequences and he was not, in fact, a deserter as indicated. Do you know why they changed the company designation from the 32nd to the 36th and why it was originally referred to as Colonel Woods' Regiment?
