Todd, I have looked through the Soldier records for the 3rd and 6th Texas and 3rd and 6th Louisiana Cavalries, with no success. I cannot get a reading at the National Park site for him in any Union or Confederate Unit. The records that I saw on line for the Louisiana pension index scared me. Each record seems to pick up a lot of extra data not related to the soldier. Records past D are not on line, Yet that I could find. I believe that he may have been in a Louisiana unit, but I have not found it. Also he may have used another name. I found a James Townsend. With a good name I go through the soldiers complete record at Footnote.com. I have found nothing using Zachariah. My have to search Townsend and pick out candidates. This should bring up a lot of names.I am always looking for 6th Texas men, especially Company I. My two kin were there.
