Re: Confederate Post at Marshall, Texas

Thanks Vicki. That is far more information than I have been able to locate in my many hours of searching. If you come across anything else, let me know. You would think there would be at least a document showing that Col. Squire Boone was transferred to Marshall, Texas. Of course, when he was paroled after Vicksburg, he signed a statement saying he would not participate in any post or activity against the U.S. Government--I guess a lot of confederate soldiers signed that pledge, only to take up arms again.
One more question, if I may. Col. Boone's brother, Crockett Boone, was a sergeant in the 15th Arkansas (Northwest) Infantry. He was a prominent newspaperman in Texas prior to his death on Jan. 5, 1911 in Van Horn, and owned an interest in over a dozen newspapers all over the state. In one of his obituaries, it states that "after the war, he was made a United Confederate Veterans colonel under Gen. Ross." Have you ever heard of Gen. Sul Ross conferring an honorary title of colonel on someone after the war? I know Sul Ross was later governor of Texas and also Texas Commander of the United Confederate Veterans. I would like to fine out more about this title of colonel. Crockett Boone went by the title throughout the rest of his life.
