Most likely he was released on parole at Vicksburg and exchanged.Regarding his last parole dated San Antonio in Oct.1865.This was the end of the war and federal troops did not get to San Antonio till late 1865.Same for Dallas and many other towns in the interior.

Texas would have been a wild and wooly place from the collapse of the Confederacy and till some yankees showed up to restore a little order.Actually Texas remained pretty wild with little law for the next 10 years.
