Cathey,

Here is his a summery of his entire file found on Footnote, I would not expect that what they recorded differ from that found in the National Archives Compiled Service Records.

The Company A Record of Events note over 44 men captured at Arkansas Post and subsequently exchanged. This information is not found in the records of the 24 Texas. It is not all that unusual that Federal POW records are missing.

His pension application should provide at least a thumbnail sketch of his service. What do you find in these papers?

The Record of Events for the various companies I've noted below, may be viewed in the Broadfoot Publications "Supplement to the Official Records" [of The War of Rebellion]. These volumes may be found in a number of large city and university libraries. Broadfoot of Wilmington, NC can advise you where they may be found in your local area. Note, the station of the company listed is that at the end of the recording period.

......................................................................

Company A had five men killed and one wounded at the Battle of Arkansas Post on the 1st & 4[?]th January 1863 and had 3 officers and 44 men captured. Were exchanged at City Point [Va.] on the 17th April 1863.

Were consolidated with the 17th and 18th & 25th Texas Cavalries at Tallahoma - Marched from Wartrace to point near Liberty Gap June 26th and were in line of battle in Range of skirmishers - at night marched back to Wartrace 16 miles - 27th marched 12 miles beyond Duck River and camped 28th Marched to Tallahoma 29th Marched to Allisona C.C. Hope

................

Company G, Sept & Oct, 1862, stationed at Arkansas Post, My company was dismouted at Eldarado, Ark. on the 28th day of July 1862. We marched to Pine Bluff and there remained for some weeks. Took line of march to this place, Arkansas Post, where we have been regularly drilled. The Company has suffered considerable by the want of stores & clothes to render them comfortable, the weather being quite cold for sometime. We were mustered into service April last and have received no money and prospects continue quite gloomy.

................

Company H, Sept & Oct, 1862, station not stated, This company was originally organized as a Spy [?] or Sssy [?] Company for ColW. Carter's Regt of Texas Lancers mounted men. That at Eldorado, Ark. while on the march to Little Rock we were dismounted by order of Maj. Gen. Hindeman which order we believe at the time to be very unjust, Not withstanding which the order was obeyed and our horses sent back to Texas. We then marched on foot to Pine Bluff Ark and were put under Col. Garland as commander of the 2nd Brigade. Marched then to Ark. Post, thence to Clarindon [?] and back to the Post, where we still remain on foot and a thousand miles from home.

May & June, 1863, station not stated. At the time of the capture of this command at the Post of Arkansas Jan. 22, 1863, all Company papers, Rolls etc., were lost & since our arrival in this Department our Commissioned Officers have not been with the Company, they having been assigned to other duty After Consolidation took place by order of Gen. Bragg leaving this Company up to the present time in a Gerry [?] helpless condition. Consequently any difference there may be between this & Rolls made previous to our capture can [?] be seen by referring to the old Rolls of 1862.

.................

Company I, Sept & Oct, 1862, stationed at Arkansas Post. This Co. was mustered into service onthe2 dayof April, A.D. 1862. Was marched to Nacogdoches as a cavalry Co. where I obtained permission to organize as an artillery Co which was done on the 22 day of June 1862 by electing [?] a fourth Lieut. Shortly afterwards I received orders to taking a detail of 12 men and horses and proceed to Woodville, Texas after two cannon and one caison [sic] wagon and proceeded with them to Shrevport, La. where I procured two more cannon, from thence I went down Red River with a detachment of Carters Brigade who were under command of Lieut. Walton and carried my guns down said river, thence up the Quachita River as high as the Alabama landing where I left the guns and proceeded then to Elderado, Ark and sent a detachment after the guns, brought them up to Elderado, where I met - orders from Genl Hinedman dismounting Co. I Wilkes Regt without exception, and an order from Co. Carter, then comdg Brigade for me to turn over my Battery to a La. Captain
