Re: Clarification on civil war widow information

My grt-grt-grdfather was also in 25th Texas Cavalry(3rd Texas Lancers),Co.I . The original 25th was formed in Hempsted Tx. rode towards Sheverport,La. where they assigned to Granbury's Texas Brigade and to help build fort at Arkansas Post(Fort Hindman). The 25th along with other units were later captured the battle of Arkansas post and shipped north to Camp Douglas(enlisted men)and Officers were sent to Camp Chase in early 1863. In late 1863 what few that survived prision camp were exchanged along with a few men from 17,18, & 24 th and assigned to Army of Tenn.. A few Texans did not care for this and feeling thier conscript time was over. We back to Texas. Many joined other Texas units but some just went home. So after their consolidation with the Army of Tenn. and those that just went back to Texas. The remaining men of the 25th were almost impossible to trace. The Army of Tenn. was later consolidated 2-3 more times so many of that unit were spread all over the south. About the best you could hope for would be to get his service records from National Archives (I did) but don't expect to find out much more than you already know ! Hope this helps some-- Russell Jordan
