Thank you very much for your response. On his petition for a pension, Elijah stated that he enlisted in the spring of 1862 in Co. C, 17th Texas Calvary, and served until the end of the war. The 17th was dismounted on 24 Apr 1862 and sent to Arkansas and assigned to First Brigade, Second Division, Trans-Mississippi Department. Their first engagement was at Arkansas Post. He either missed the engagment for some reason, or escaped capture. Since he stated that he served until the end of the war, I have to believe that he wound up in Shreveport and became a part of Polignac's Brigade, 17th Texas Cavalry Consolidated, which was formed from the men who escaped the engagment at Arkansas Post. They fought along the Red River and into Louisiana and Arkansas until the end of the war. Again, thank you for your information. The info on the 24th was most interesting.
