Many of the drivers who delivered weapons, ball, powder and tack from the San Antonio forts to new forming regiments were driving US Army wagons and were enlisted in the regiments where they delivered. I know it happened at the 6th and the 9th. This is probably how the San Antonio drivers were in the 9th. Have not looked to see if they were paid that distance to enlist. May have been double pay.
