Christian flags, as in white field, with a red Latin cross inside a blue canton? I thought that flag was designed in 1907.

However, Southerners at the time of the Civil War did generally consider themselves more Christian than their Northern opponents. They included in the preamble to the Confederate Constitution--"invoking the favor and guidance of Almighty God." Individual units often incorporated a Roman cross, a St. George's cross or a St. Andrew's cross into flag designs, and Southerners utilized the symbol of the constellation of the Southern Cross although it can't be seen anywhere in the southern United States.
