I'm a little confused (folks who know me would probably say, "Amen!!") but was not Bourland's Regt sometimes referred to as the "Border Regiment?"

My GGrandfather's enlistment record (from Texas State Archives)as follows, in part:

"...Name & Rank: DuBose, J.K., 1st Sgt

Comm. Off:McKamy, William C., Capt

Org: Co.K, Border Cav. Regt., Col.Jas Bourland commanding, CSA...."

Patty Rochette kindly provided me some additional information on my ancestor, including a copy of a "morning report" dated Aug 10, 1864 from "Camp Twitty." Not sure if this was in Texas or Indian Territory...as there is a later reference that states, "Since last muster, done a great deal of scouting but saw no Indians. Moved from Camp Twitty to Camp Point Lookout, Chickasaw Nationa, distance 15 miles, Oct 27, 1864 all quiet at this time.

(signed) Wm. C. McCamy"

I have also seen other references to "Bourland's Border Regiment."

Apparently, there was a "Border's" (Regiment? Battalion? Company?) serving in the Tyler area at the POW camp...As well as "Bourland's Border Regiment" in the Red River/Indian Territory area.

In the case of the former, "Border's" it was, as is often the case, so referred to (informally) by the commanding officer's name, i.e., Hood's Brigade, Jackson's Division, etc., whereas Bourland's "Border Regiment" was a geographical reference related to their service on the "border" area of Texas.

However, I stand to be corrected (and it sure ain't worth getting into a broohaha like the "Bloody Bill Anderson" tempest a little further down the page!)
