Re: Civil War Hospitals
In Response To: Civil War Hospitals ()

John:
Among other units, Jenkins' South Carolina Brigade defended the line of the Blackwater River from March 1863 through June, advancing across to the Siege of Suffolk during April and early June. There was sporadic fighting al;ong the line, not a lot of casualties, but obviously there was the problem of sick men as well. I do no know where the hospitals were located, but I will go into my files on the Hampton Legion to see if any mention is made of hospitals for that unit, a part of Jenkins' Brigade. I don't recall anything specific. I have been in touch with a fellow from Spartanburg, S.C., who has a farmer friend in the Franklin neighborhood, and they are apparently heavy into locating old sites. I'll contact my S.C. contact and see if he can't rustle something up for you.

Have you contacted the Hiostorical Society in Suffolk?
