Appreciate all the help. So far the most I have found out is that Franklin was bombarded by Perry in 1862 while trying to make a transit up the Blackwater. Though there is no reference in how Franklin fared in the bombardment.
I have contacted the South Hampton County Historical Society to see if they have any info.
