As you apparently are aware, the one and only card in his CSR file is a note that he died April 28, 1864 at Brandy Station. I question the date and believe it might be the date his name appeared on a "Register of .... soldiers killed in battle, etc." as the Battle of Brandy Station occurred in June 1863. I have found no other engagements about Brandy Station in the April 64' time frame.

But, best of all worlds, there is a wonderful detailed website "Ninth Virginia Regiment of Cavalry," @ http://9thvirginia.com/

Their roster for Co. A only records he was killed at Brandy Station, no date.
