Kingsland Road is on the north side of the James River near Chaffin's Bluff, New Market Heights, and Fort Harrison. Access to Fort Darling at Drewry's Bluff is off Route 1 (Jefferson Davis Highway) just north of Willis Road. You can see the NPS site from Interstate 95 but can not access it from there. Drewry's Bluff actions extended as far south as The Halfway House, Proctor's Creek, and Chester Station. The Confederate Dimmock Line extends from the James River on the north to Parker's Battery to the south. Benjamin Butler was "in the bottle" a peninsula of land known as Bermuda Hundred at the confluence of the Appomattox and James Rivers. Just east of this river joining is City Point, Grant's supply base. (now modern day Hopewell, Virginia).
