Thanks, In years of study on this campaign I recalled several Federal reports mentioning observing several Hardee pattern flags amongst the opposing Confederate lines. Also other mentions that Johnsons troops brought them with them and continued to use them. If memory serves correctly I recall some of these also being captured at Weldon Railroad fight in Aug 1864. Stumbled across the references while attempting to seek confirmation on the fate of several of Hagoods South Carolina Brigade's Regimental flags reportedly taken on Aug 21st.
The Tennessee boys apparently were quite nasty fighters.. various references found that when some of the 44th Tenn were captured at Drewrys Bluff on May 16th.. that some of the federal captors took out retaliations upon them while officers turned their backs...
