It occurred to me, the photographer has removed the bandage to show the face and the wound more clearly. Seems kind of morbid.

I used to be able to examine pictures like this with a detached interest. Don't know why, but the more I look at pictures like this now, I just get sad. Doesn't matter if its Yank or Reb, all I can think about is this tragedy frozen in time.

Somebody's darling,
somebody's pride,
who'll tell his mother
where her boy died?
