Pvt. Fountain Wood Cook, 5th VA Calvary

Researching events regarding my Great-Grandfather, Pvt. Fountain Wood Cook, of Little Plymouth VA, enlisted in Company E, 5th VA Calvary June 7, 1861 and KIA April 1st 1865 at Five Forks. Family oral history has it, a fellow soldier, William A. Duling, of the 55th Confederate Infantry heard his dyeing plea to return home and care for his family. The request was honored and William Duling survived the war to become my Grandfather's (Fountain Lee Cook) step-father. I am seeking any living linage of William Duling and Ann Judson Cook Duling family of Little Plymouth VA, to see if any trace remains of the story or circumstances of F.W. Cooks death. The "5th Virginia Calvary" Regimental History (book) by Robert J. Driver lists Fountain Wood Cook (misspelled Cooke) and also, possibly a younger brother who survived the war, William S. Cook - both enlisted same day at King and Queen Co. Va. One casualty is reported in this unit at Five Forks for 4/1/1865, which likely would be F. W. Cook. 1870 Census for K & Q Co. VA documents the household of William A. Duling as including his wife, Ann Cook Duling, and children; Charles Cook, Fountain Lee Cook, Mary H. Cook, and infant, Frank Duling. If anyone can help locate any trace of this personal family history, or details of Company E at Five Forks battle, please contact me. Thank You. prairieflyer@gmail.com
