Hello, again. Maybe you can answer some of my questions?
What was a Partisan Ranger? What was a Mountain Ranger?
What was a Sharp Shooter? And, What was the Militia? How
do they differ, from a regular Regiment; like the Artillery,
Battalion, Cavalry and Infantry Units? It's confusing...
I have several Ancestors who fought in the Civil War, from
the Hardy and Hampshire Co, "Old" Va/W.Va., area. The two
I'm really interested in, are:
Rector Piles - Served in (3) different Companies:
(1) 114th Va. Militia, under Capt. A. Monroe.
(2) 62nd Va. Mounted Infantry Regiment, Co. G., under Capt.
George W. Stump - which later became Co. B.
(3) 18th Va. Cavalry Regiment, Co. K., under Capt. John H.
Piles (most likely an Uncle or Cousin); and General
John D. Imboden.
John H. Boon(e) - Served in the 7th Va. Cavalry Harris' Co/
Ashby's Cavalry.
I have a question for you. In your last reply, regarding
Turner Ashby. You said he died by June of 1862. If my
G.G.G.G.-Grandfather John H. Boon(e) fought and most likely
died (sometime prior to July 13th, 1863; when his "widow"
Ruth Boone filed some type of claim for him). How could
John H. Boone serve under Ashby's Cavalry, if Turner Ashby
was already dead?
Thanks, And have a "blessed" day ~ everyday!
Rebecca Wilson :)
