Follow the thread and I think you'll get a pretty good idea of the action. Regarding Fort Steadman fought the same day, this attack on the west end of the Confederate line reminds me of what Grant did at Fort Donelson after the Confederate Break Out Attempt. He realized the Confederates must have weakened their line somewhere to make an attack, so he attacked at the opposite end of the line.

My wife's gg-grandfather was captured, along with the flag of the 43rd Alabama Infantry in this battle. Interestingly enough, this flag and that of the 5th Alabama Battalion captured at Gettysburg were found together in Joshua Chamberlain's estate.
