Thanks much for the responses.
The reason I was asking appeared in the Richmond Times Dispatch
of July 3, 1896. The article described the Veterans parade at that
year's UCV Reunion in Richmond;
"The flag of the 9th Virginia was also in line. At Appomattox the
Color-Sgt. W. S. Kelly, cut it from the staff and put it around
his body. Since then each of his 10 children were wrapped in it when
babies."
Notice that the article does not say whether infantry or cavalry.
The William Kelly of the 9th Cav. was captured at Amelia CH and did
not make it to Appomattox; hence my original question.
I'll file this with the 9th Cav. But, now, where is this flag?
