Miller, Julius Gordon (1860) -Julius Gordon Miller, Class of 1860 (graduated 3 out of 41). Born- November 7, 1839. Matricualted from Mathews Court House, Va. Unofficial source says taught physics and chemistry at North Carolina Military Institute. At VMI 4 years. Military Record: May at one time have been with 30th Virginia (perhaps as Drill Master). On active duty spring 1862 as 2nd Lt, Company D, 61st Virginia Militia. Detailed to command Company F April-May 1862. Enlisted January 1, 1862 at Mathews Court House for 1 year as Private, Company F, 5th Virginia Cavalry. Detailed as courier for Maj Gen (later Lt Gen) D.H. Hill. Discharged September 5, 1862 to become Lt and Assistant Professor of Math and Asst Instructor of Tactics at VMI (1862-1863). No further records found of military service. Post War Career: Unofficial source says taught Latin and math at Baltimore (Maryland) City College. Teacher. Died- February 20, 1908.
