James F. Dervin, Private, (3rd) Company H. 47th Virginia Infantry, enlisted March 25, 1862 at Fredericksburg by Thos. N. Welch for 3 years or the war, admitted to Chimborazo Hospital No. 1, Richmond, Virginia May 11, 1862 with Typhoid Fever, died May 19, 1862

The 47th Regiment Virginia Infantry as organized June 11, 1861, and accepted into the service of the Confederate States July 1, 1861, with ten companies, A to K. (1st) Companies G to K were detached about August 16, 1861,and formed into a battalion which subsequently became the 55th Regiment Virginia Infantry. Three independent companies of Virginia Infantry and the company called "Maryland Zouaves" were assigned to the regiment in their stead. (2nd) Company I was exchanged for Company I, 30th Regiment Virginia Infantry in September, 1861. (2nd) Company H (the "Maryland Zouaves") was detached from this regiment in April, 1862, and mustered out of service June 15, 1862, as Captain Walters' Company Maryland Infantry. (3rd) Company H was assigned to the regiment after its reorganization, May 1, 1862.

3rd Company H, Welch's, no designation Captain Thos. N. Welch, resigned June 9, 1862
