Acccording to a footnote in the new book "Civil War Talks" Lawrence came from Petersburg, married the daughter of Mr. Richard Aiken who owned the Aiken House which was near the site of several Petersburg battles.

The author claims Lawrence was a member of the 5th Virginia Cavalry, but also says he was present in the fighting of August 18th 1864 on the Weldon Railroad. The 5th was at that time in the Shenandoah Valley.

Can anyone tell me what regiment Lawrence was in?
