Re: Battle of Romulus Location
In Response To: Battle of Romulus Location ()

Croxton’s brigade left Northport by way of the (old) Columbus Road to Coker, then camped for the night on the old Eutaw Road toward Romulus.

It is not clear from the description above but the Federals may have turned south along the approximate route of highway 2 out of Coker. On the route to Pleasant Ridge, in Greene County, they would have passed through Romulus using the approximate route of highway 2 to a point southeast of Aliceville. "Croxton’s brigade traveled southward across the swollen Sipsey River toward Lanier’s Mill near Pleasant Ridge" This route crosses the Sipsey in a southward direction toward Pleasant Ridge. Also, it is along the route General Wirt would have used to travel to Marion (the approximate route of today's Alabama 14)

If the running battle occurred on the return trip towards Northport, it is logical that the Confederates trailed Croxton in a northerly direction back along the highway 2 route. I do not recall seeing the marker along this route in my trips from Aliceville to Tuscaloosa and back. I knew a little of the event but do not recall the marker.
