While these buttons have been attributed to the Mobile unit/units mentioned, I do not think that there has ever been any evidence presented that this is a fact. In other words, its a guess. The *same* source *guessed* that the AVC [Alabama Volunteer Corps] buttons were from the mid-1850's and this has been taken to heart by the button collecting community. In fact, as most of us Alabama folks know, the AVC did not exist before 1860, so the buttons could not have been from the 1850's. My point being that it *could* be that the MVC buttons are not from Mobile, at all, or that they were possibly used by other organizations with the same initials. Just think of all the "M" States, for instance, [Missouri, Mississippi, Maryland, Michigan, Maine, etc.]
