It looks like he was also assigned to the Camp of Instruction at Talledega, possibly towards the end of the war since he was paroled there. I don't have his service records, but there was a Samuel R. Parsons assigned there, and it could well be the same S. R. Parsons who is listed with the 12th AL Infantry. I do not find any indication of his enlistment with the artillery, but that's possible also. If that was the case, he bounced around a bit...
