James Cunningham of Clarke Co., Alabama

Seeking to know what unit or possible unit James Cunningham of Clarke Co., Alabama might have served in during the war.

Have a photocopy of a letter written Jan. 1862 in which the writer (Chaste Helen Noble Scruggs) indicates that James Cunningham was buried December 1861 (have the specific day, but can't put hands on letter right now--believe it was December 25 or 31).

In Jan. 1865 the James Cunningham family which consisted of a wife and three children, living in Coffeeville, Beat No. 10, were considered to be an indigent soldier's family and entitled to appropriations.

Any assistance appreciated.
