Re: James Cunningham of Clarke Co., Alabama

Hi Wayne,

Thanks ever so much for all the typing and all the good suggestions.

I am serious about identifying James Cunningham. Another major problem in trying to identify the correct James Cunningham I want is that his wife also died in the 1860-1870 time period, and the children were raised by their uncle. So there would be no pension application for the widow.

Not sure whether the monies previously listed for "indigent families" was offered by the State of Alabama or by Clarke County. Have no idea how long that kind of assistance went on for the families.

Also, if he was buried in Clarke Co., Alabama, no tombstone has been located for him in the area where he lived.

Again, thanks for all your efforts. I will continue looking! Maybe I can eliminate some of the ones you listed in order to make the task less daunting.

Margaret
