Young author needing help

Ok I would like to thank all those that have helped me thus far and I will make a note to add you to the list of all those that helped give me information and gave me insperation when the book goes to be published. I just need a little bit more help on this.

The setting for the book starts out in two different places:
one at Camp Sherman in Ohio and the other the building in Mongomery that would have been used for soldiers to enlist(help!). Also the book starts out in November 1861 in both places and I am wondering about a few things concering that month and year:

1) who were some of the main people from there that became officers and that a 16 year old son of a plantation owner might know?

2) what was or is the weather typically like there at that time of year?

3) Where did men enlisting that came from surrounding counties usually go or what did they usually do after enlisting?

4) What was a typical thing that a confederate recruiting officer might say when someone came to enlist?

Thanks,
