Susan,
Harry Pfanz's book, "Gettysburg: The Second Day" offers an excellent account of the overall fight. Wilcox's Alabama brigade, containing the 11th, smashed the Union Third Corps posted along the Emmitsburg road but was soon stopped in front of Cemetary Ridge by a desperate charge of the 1st Minnesota, along with the 111th New York further south. For the positions of the 11th and Wilcox's brigade see also, "The Gettysburg Magazine" issue 15, pp. 49 and 53. On July 3 the 11th occupied the center of Wilcox's brigade during its belated and pointless attack with the Florida brigade after the Pickett-Pettigrew charge was essentially repulsed.
