Re: Confederate officers from Alabama who died in

Here are some possible additions. The following should be researched further to determine if they are accurate and/or whether they meet your qualifications for the list:

LIPSCOMB, George H., Major
Major of the 27th Miss. Inf. Killed at the Battle of Perryville, Ky. on 10/8/1862. Believed to be an Alabama resident at the time of his enlistment…from Mobile, if I recall correctly.

WIER, Robert Stuart, Captain
Born 8/5/1829. Pickens County, Alabama resident. Captain of the 14th Miss. Inf., Co. B “Enterprise Guards” which were raised in Clarke County, Miss. Brother of WIER, James Harvey of the 40th Ala. Inf., Co. B and WIER, Samuel Milton of the 11th Ala. Inf., Co. H. Died in service on 1/6/1862. Body returned to Pickens County

KELLY, John Herbert , Brigadier General
1. Commanded an Arkansas battalion as Major
2. Colonel of the 8th Arkansas Regiment
3. Brigadier of Preston’s Third Brigade
4. Brigadier of {?} brigade of Wheeler’s Cavalry
Although a resident of Alabama [probably a resident of Cuba, Ala., at the time], he was away at school [West Point] when the war began. Some sources state that he was requested to come home by the State of Alabama. On August 10, 1864, he was killed while leading a charge at Franklin, Tennessee, commanding a brigade of Wheeler’s Cavalry. I do not know what brigade, or if it was an Alabama brigade. After a period of interment on the Columbia Pike near Franklin, he was laid to final rest at Mobile on March 18, 1866.

You probably already have the following, but I include them just in case you did know that they were Alabama residents:

McCAA, Burrell Boykin [McCAA, C.C. in some sources], Capt. of Company D, promoted to Major
8th Confederate Cavalry
McCaa was from Franconia, Alabama, one mile north of present day Aliceville. McCaa died on 1/3/1863, after a fatal wound received in the Battle of Murfreesboro. His remains were returned to Franconia after the war.

SALMOND, Burwell B., Capt.
8th Confederate Cavalry, Co. D
Listed in some sources as a Private in this company. Also served in the 2nd Ala. Inf., Co. B, as a 1st Sgt. Killed in action at Tupelo on 6/26/1862. His body was returned home. His tombstone, in Franconia, Alabama, states that he was a Capt.

ARCHIBALD, A.B., 2nd Lt., promoted to Capt.
8th Confederate Cavalry, Company D
Captured. Died at Johnson’s Island POW Prison, Erie Co. Ohio on 2/6/1864. I believe that A.B. Archibald was a resident of Pickens or Greene County. Scott Owens should know if this is correct.
