During the Atlanta Campaign (1864), he was a division commander in Wheeler's Cavalry Corps. The division was called "Kelly's Division" and consisted of Allen's Brigade (3rd Conf., 8th Conf., 10th Conf., 12th Conf. and 5th Ga.), Dibrell's Brigade (4th, 8th, 9th, 10th, and 11th Tenn.), Hannon's Brigade (53rd and 24th Ala. Battalion).
