Re: George H. TODD--Lookup, Please

Here's what I have on George Todd:

George Todd aka Winter Iron Works, Montgomery – Mississippi rifles

“At the outbreak of the war is said to have gone to Lancaster, Texas, where he evidently planned to become connected in some capacity with Tucker, Sherrod & Co. This did not work out and he returned to his native State, Alabama. At Montgomery, under the trade name of the Winter Iron Works, turned out Mississippi model muskets.” These Mississippi “rifles” are marked with the year 1864.

Todd had gone to Austin, Texas before the war, where he manufactured imitation 1851 Colt’s with both round and octagon barrels. These were made before the war only.
