Of course the companies organized before the regiment. My paper records for Monroe County are in storage, and my laptop records are not completely recovered. Based on what we know from company records, the "Monore Guards" organized for state service on March 15, 1861. Captain Giles Goode's CSA commission dated from May 18, 1861, so the company must have been transferred to Confederate service about that time.
