You may order his records through the service noted in the Red enclosed box above. They consist of some 38 cards. As noted, you will need these records
for proof of his service.

Note, he was paid at the rate of $3 a day for extra duty work as a Carpenter. Noting that a Private made $11 a month, a Lieutenant, $90 a month, this was a
princely wage. He must have been highly skilled.

There is nothing in his record to show why he was dropped from the rolls. His company continued in service. I do not find records under his name in the Engineer service.

SECOND BATTALION OF ARTILLERY

Battery A of this battalion, under the command of Capt. Stephen Charpentier, served in the defenses of Mobile until the spring of 1863, when it was attached to General Featherstone's brigade, and afterward did service in Mississippi, known as Charpentier's battery.

Battery C served in General Hebert's brigade and lost heavily at the siege of Vicksburg, where its captain, T. K Emanuel, was killed. The remnant of the battery continued to serve under the command of Capt. John D. Haynie in the army of Mobile until the surrender.

Battery E seems to have served continuously under the command of Capt. J. B. Hutchisson, at or near Mobile.
