Re: Capt. Durrette (Randolph Co.) 30th AL Infantr

Records are filed under A J Durrett. Joined Mar. 19, 1862, at Camp Curry near Talladega, company muster in roll dated Mar. 31, Camp Curry, shows him as a private, age 22, in Capt. Wood's Company, Alabama Vols. This company would become Co. G, 30th Alabama Infantry. Surrender documents for Vicksburg show his rank as corporal. He is later promoted to 1st Lt. and eventually to Captain commanding Co. G. Some cards show the spelling as Derrett. A close examination of his signature on a requisition document shows that he signed as Derrett. The 1850 and 1860 census records for Randolph County also show the Derrett spelling.
