Kathy, you posted: "A. L. Barnett, on his military records is listed as "died of disease" September 6, 1864. Location not given. He is listed as being "Abs.Fur.Davis Farm 8/21 & Reams Sta. 8/25/64". Family story is that he is buried in a cemetery located in Perry County, Alabama. Would it be likely/possible that his body was sent home"
I am currently reading a book about hospitals in Georgia during the war. I believe the "Abs.Fur. Davis farm" would mean he was absent on furlough at Davis Farm, then moved to Reams Station, do you know where Reams Station was located. This a good start to finding where he might have died. He could have been sent home on sick furlough, and was in transit when he died.
died of disease" September 6, 1864. Location not given: is also a clue that he might have been in transit.
If that is the case finding the location of Reams Farm will be valuable in tracking his journey. He died Sept. 6, so that might mean he had reached home before he died. If he had not reached home when he died, there is also a possibility that the family could have traveled a short distance to claim his body to be taken home for burial. There is a grave not 5 miles from my house, a soldier was wounded in North Ga., his family got permission to travel up there to get him, take him home to die.
Virginia is a lot further away than Dalton, or Resaca would be from where I live. But maybe you can find where these places were and track him to his home, good luck
Tom
