The company historical record shows A L Barnett present for the action at Whites Tavern VA, Aug 16, 1864, but absent on furlough for the fighting at Davis Farm VA, Aug 21, 1864, and Reams Station VA, Aug 25, 1864. Obviously he left for home between August 16th and 21st.

Except in very unusual cases the dead were not transported to home locations. In this case the man man have died after returning home on furlough. He brought himself home for burial.
