There was a J. S. Morris who served in Co. B, 8th Arkansas Cavalry. This man enlisted at Pine Bluff, Arkansas, on February 23, 1863, for three years or the war. He was reported absent without leave on August 31, 1863. He deserted and took the oath of allegiance at Pine Bluff on October 19, 1863; age 47, eyes blue, hair gray, complexion fair, height 5'10", residence Pine Bluff, Arkansas.

There was a J. D. Morris who served in Co. F, 32nd Arkansas Infantry. This man enlisted at Burrowville, Arkansas, on June 16, 1862, for three years or the war, by Capt. Leslie. He was left sick at Hickory Plains, Arkansas, on October 4, 1862; he never returned to the regiment and was ultimately dropped from the rolls for desertion.

I recall seeing an online list of Vicksburg paroles quite awhile ago, but I don't know the web address. The list I have does not mention a James D. Morris or J. D. Morris.
