Jack, I forgot to mention that the original Desha County component of Company H was named the "Blackburn Guards." I've seen two different accounts of where this name originated. One states that the name was bestowed in honor of Edward M. Blackburn, a local merchant, who provided funds to equip the company; the other states that the name was in honor of a wealthy widow, Mrs. Isabel Blackburn, who made a flag for the company. She was the mother of Edward Blackburn, so it's possible that both elements of the story are true.
