Frank

Shortly after the conclusion of the Vicksburg National Parks Study the Property was put up for sell. Another gentleman a Pine Bluff Businessman, bought it primarily for his personal use. (privacy and hunting)

The good news is that he is aware of the historical significates of the site and I have visited with him giving him a tour of the various elements that we knew of. During those visits he also showed me some of the outer trench works that we did not see when we surveyed the site. So I am comfortable that he is not going to bulldozer down what is still there.

But, as to answer your question directly, No, outside of continuing to research the activities of the Arkansas, Missouri and Texas troops there is no active efforts to preserve or interpret the site.

We are presently trying to raise enough money to establish an endowment fund to try to take care of Camp White Sulphur Springs and maybe in the future (probably very distant future) to aquire some of the other sites like Fort Pleasant.

Sorry, that we haven't been able to do more. But as you are well aware there is no money or glory in preservation and our little group in Pine Bluff is spread kind of thin in our efforts to preserve camp White Sulphur, Fort Pleasant, Marks Mill and Mt Elba.
