Re: 12th battalion of sharpshooters Irish?

Capt. Griffin Bayne initially commanded Co. K, 18th (Carroll's) Arkansas Infantry, before being assigned to command Co. A, 12th Battalion Arkansas Sharpshooters. Neither of these companies were "Irish" in any sense of the word. His company in the 18th Arkansas was comprised predominately of farmers from Jefferson County. His company in the 12th Arkansas Battalion was comprised of volunteers and details from the various companies of the 18th Arkansas. These men were mostly farmers from Dallas, Jefferson, Prairie, Arkansas, Saline, St. Francis and Ouachita counties.
