I got the information on Col. Hawthorn from the Edward Gerdes Civil War Home Page. If you click on "Cockes' Regiment" the first page has the officers and the notation, "Dismissed by election 5 Jan 1864" is in the record for Col. A.T. Hawthorn. I have not been able to view the actual service records which may give more details. According to "Generals in Gray", he assumed the rank of brigadier general on February 18, 1864.

I do not believe a battle report by Gen. Hawthorn at Jenkins' Ferry has surfaced. If you have come across it in your research I would be very interested in seeing it. To my knowledge there are no reports by any of the regimental commanders, either. The first report available is that of the division commander, Gen. T.J. Churchill, but he does not specifically mention any fallen officers. Gen. Sterling Price mentions Col. Cocke in his closing remarks, but nothing that tells his position during the battle.
