The Acadia Parish Newspaper Archives list the average of one bale per acre near Crowley, Louisiana. This was in the year 1889 and my ancestors who had moved from Virginia to Georgia to Arkansas to Louisiana to Texas from 1754-1890 (final move being Texas----we're all here now)state in their crop records that the yield has pretty much remained the same. The Spears grew tobacco in pre-Revolution Virginia, cotton in all of the other states.
