Ok, Totten first started out as a Capt, of Missouri Artillery. I find one mention where he is identified as Major and Lt. Col of Missouri Artillery.

I found mention of Gen Totten asking for the regiments of Huston, Guitar and Catherwood from Northern Missouri/St Louis. Any one of these could be filled with Germans. He is also complaining of Blunt acting outside of Totten's command,,,LOL

Totten was Commander of the 4th Brigade Missouri Militia
