Re: Enfield cavalry carbines used by Price's men

Chuck,

Thanks for this information. My hypothesis and perhaps most plausible scenario regarding this "captured" Enfield cavalry carbine was that it was among the arms carried by one of Price's Arkansas or Missouri cavalrymen or mounted infantrymen during the Missouri expedition of the fall of 1864. Its accepted Confederate inspection markings would indicate it was imported by the Rebels. And its capture date of Oct. 21 or Oct. 22 (most likely 1864 for reasons stated in previous post) may tend to indicate that it was captured by the Federals in one of several actions between Price's men and the Yankees on those two specific dates during the expedition. So I am just looking for some corroborative ordnance reports or Confed. officer's reports or letters or diaries that may document that the Enfield cavalry carbine was among the many weapons used by Price's men at that time. It may in fact be looking for the proverbial needle in the haystack, but stranger things have happened in previous research efforts ... so you never know! And I appreciate your input.

Mike
