Thanks for your quick response. It is possible that this William may be the one I'm looking for because he moved with his family from Tennessee and was a farmer in Greene County, Missouri when he is shown on both the 1850 and 1860 census. I have located his wife and other family members in the Hickory Grove cemetery near Grove, Oklahoma. So, I guess he could have traveled to Texas and joined the 3rd Cavalry Reginment after 1860. Is there any place I can find information on this Regiment and it's members? Has anyone written a book that you are aware of that might list the activities of this Regiment? Any information you can provide or, direction on where to look would be greatly appreciated because when it comes to military records, I don't have a clue on where to begin looking.
