For your information and others, I'm going to be imposing some new rules on the News & Views Message Board, which would be an ideal location to continue this thread regarding bias in historical writing. I hope you and others might give the N&V site another try and work with me to make it a better and friendlier place.

BTW, I agree with ALL of your statements. As a fellow Southerner, I see everything with a Southern slant. I work very hard to "make" myself read history from another perspective, basically from the Union POV and I've found it to be enriching. Even if my reading did not change my views and I was still a Southern partisan on a particular topic, I had a better understanding of the subject matter with an alternative perspective.

I recently wrote in a posting on another message board, that these sites can accept and even, anticipate partisanship. What the boards can't tolerate is zealotry, a fanatical form of partisanship.
